A lawyer landing page is the single-purpose page your paid clicks land on, built to produce a consultation request or a call and nothing else.

It is the destination half of law firm website conversion, which owns the whole funnel.

Why paid clicks should not land on your homepage

A homepage serves every visitor a firm has; a landing page serves the one who just clicked an ad and decides in seconds.

The click is expensive before the page does anything: WordStream's 2026 benchmarks of more than 13,000 Google and Microsoft search campaigns across 23 industries, April 2025 to March 2026, put attorneys and legal services at the highest average cost per click measured, $9.87, and the highest average cost per lead, $131.63, figures that blend practice areas and define a lead however each advertiser does.

More Booked Cases does not manage Google Ads; the ad side here is Facebook ads for lawyers, and the page rules below apply to either platform.

Sending paid clicks to the homepage

  • Every navigation link is an exit.
  • The headline matches no one's search.
  • The form is the contact page's, fields and all.

Sending them to a dedicated landing page

  • The headline repeats the practice area and city the ad promised.
  • One action: call or short form.
  • Phone number visible without scrolling.

What goes on a law firm landing page

Example galleries show designs, not what converts; here is the order that matters.

  • A headline that matches the ad: practice area and city in the first line, nothing to decode.
  • One primary action: click-to-call and a short form, not six competing buttons.
  • How hiring works: in Clio's 2024 Legal Trends research, only 30% of shoppers could easily understand a firm's hiring process and only 14% could find pricing, based on a few hundred shoppers' judgments.
  • A fee explanation in plain terms: what the fee structure is or how fees work, without price claims your state treats its own way.
  • Trust signals a stranger can verify: bar admission, years practicing, reviews quoted honestly; the law firm website trust signals guide lists them.
  • Name and contact information: ABA Model Rule 7.2(d) requires every communication under the rule to carry a responsible lawyer's or firm's name and contact information, and some states still want a street address or city.

Personal injury carries the hardest page economics and its own playbook, covered in personal injury landing pages.

Count calls, not just form fills

In Clio's 2019 consumer survey, 68% of consumers first reached a law firm by phone, 25% by email or form and 26% in person, multiple answers allowed.

Measurement is where numbers go wrong: Google's documentation notes that tracking taps counts the click, not the call, and its forwarding numbers track only calls following a Google Ads click, not organic, Maps, Meta or direct ones.

Click-to-call placement has evidence behind it: in tests Gabe ran at Sourcely before LaserAway, conversion rate rose by up to 50% in some cases on website-initiated calls, his record from that earlier role, not a law firm result.

Forms: what people actually finish

In a forms study Nielsen Norman Group cites (Seckler and colleagues, CHI), forms that followed basic usability guidelines were submitted error-free on the first try 78% of the time, against 42% for forms that violated them.

HubSpot's analysis found conversion falls only slightly as plain text fields are added, while multiple large text areas have a "powerful depressing effect"; both datasets are ecommerce and B2B, so the describe-your-case box is a test idea, not a proven lift.

One design choice has an ethics edge: the comment to ABA Model Rule 1.18 says a consultation is likely to have occurred when a lawyer, through advertising in any medium, specifically invites the submission of information about a potential representation without clear warnings limiting the lawyer's obligations, and someone responds.

That is why many firms put a no-attorney-client-relationship notice beside forms and chat; state versions vary, and a notice is not a guaranteed safe harbor.

Meta lead forms are the page-less alternative: without Meta's prior written permission, its lead forms may not ask about criminal history, bankruptcy or debt, health including disabilities, or insurance details, the opening questions of PI, criminal defense and bankruptcy intake, so a reasonable pattern is contact details on the Meta form, the rest in your own intake.

The field-by-field version is in the legal intake forms guide.

Speed and interruptions

Google's 2016 DoubleClick research put 53% of mobile visits as likely abandoned past a 3-second load, a modeled estimate across about 3,700 mobile sites, not a law firm dataset.

Google's current thresholds are the check: Largest Contentful Paint within 2.5 seconds, Interaction to Next Paint of 200 milliseconds or less, Cumulative Layout Shift of 0.1 or less, each at the 75th percentile of loads.

Pop-ups are the last interruption: Google's Search guidance covers all kinds of promotional dialogs, says not to obscure the page with an interstitial, prefers small banners, and names no penalty or exit-intent rule.

What a good landing page conversion rate is

Unbounce's 2024 Conversion Benchmark Report, built on 41,000+ landing pages and 57 million conversions on its own builder, puts the median legal landing page at 6.3%, immigration at 5.6%, top performers at 13.1% or better and all industries at 6.6%.

The same report says paid search traffic converts nearly 2x better than any other source in legal.

Three limits: single pages, not whole sites; form fills only, so most calls are missing; one builder's customers, not a law firm average.

Testing the page without fooling yourself

Nielsen Norman Group's testing guidance is the constraint: significance often needs thousands of users, about 13,000 visitors for a 3% baseline detecting a 20% lift at 95% significance, and tests should run at least 1 to 2 weeks.

Signed cases are too few and too slow to be test metrics, so a test measures calls and form starts, then checks what they became in the CRM; that two-step is our approach, not an industry standard.

Stopping early when the winner looks obvious breaks the math: in Evan Miller's example, peeking and stopping on significance pushes the false-positive rate to 26.1%.

Define the two conversions first

A call and a form, defined before launch.

Collect a fixed sample

Metric, minimum lift, stop date: decided in advance, left alone.

Change one thing

One headline, one form, one placement per test.

Read it, then check the CRM

The test reads the near metric; intake gives the real one.

The rules your landing page copy carries

ABA Model Rule 7.1, which binds no one until a state adopts it, prohibits a false or misleading communication about a lawyer or the lawyer's services, including one that omits a fact needed to keep it from being materially misleading.

Its comments add two tests landing page copy runs into: a truthful statement is still misleading if it is likely to leave a reasonable person with a conclusion no reasonable factual foundation supports, and so is a presentation implying the reader must take further action when none is required, the pattern urgency copy risks.

The comments also treat an unsubstantiated claim about services or fees, or an unsubstantiated comparison with other lawyers, as potentially misleading when specific enough to suggest it can be substantiated, the hook best-lawyer and lowest-fees claims hang on.

Between that, the name-and-contact rule in the checklist and the Rule 1.18 comment above, your state's version controls, so confirm the claims, fee language and disclaimers with your state bar's ethics counsel or an ethics lawyer.

How landing pages fit here

Landing pages are not sold here as website builds or redesigns; they ship two ways.

As part of managed Meta ads: static image ads, 8 to 12 a month, landing pages Gabe builds, one landing-page A/B test a month, at $3,000 a month flat plus a $2,500 one-time setup on a 3-month minimum, with ad spend paid directly to Meta at a $3,000 a month minimum, never marked up.

As part of CRO: one controlled test a month on the pages you already have, judged by consultations booked and cases signed with read access to your intake numbers, at $2,500 a month on a 6-month minimum, or $5,000 paired with local SEO.

Everything built stays yours, and after the minimum term, cancelling is an email with 30 days' notice and no fee.

The background is Gabe's: as Director of CRO at LaserAway from 2018 to 2023, he ran the program that took sitewide conversion from 3% to 11% at a 210x return across 2,600+ variations, consumer-services experience, not a law firm track record.

The free audit maps what your pages leak, findings doc inside 3 business days, no call required.

Frequently asked questions

What conversion rate should a law firm landing page hit?

Unbounce's 2024 Conversion Benchmark Report puts the median legal landing page at 6.3%, with top performers at 13.1% or better, but those numbers are single pages on one builder counting form fills only, with most calls not counted. Your own baseline, measured on calls plus form submissions, is the fair target.

Should a law firm landing page push calls or form fills?

Both, visibly. In Clio's 2019 consumer survey, 68% of consumers said they first contacted a law firm by phone and 25% by email or an electronic form, multiple answers allowed, so the phone number belongs above the fold with a short form beside it.

Can I put 'best law firm' on my landing page?

The comments to ABA Model Rule 7.1 treat an unsubstantiated comparison with other lawyers as potentially misleading when it is specific enough to suggest it can be substantiated. Model Rules bind no one until a state adopts them, your state's version controls, and it is worth confirming the wording with your bar's ethics counsel.

Does filling out a landing page form create an attorney-client relationship?

The comment to ABA Model Rule 1.18 says a consultation is likely to have occurred when a lawyer, through advertising in any medium, specifically invites submission of information about a potential representation without clear warnings limiting the lawyer's obligations, and someone responds. That is why many firms post a no-attorney-client-relationship notice beside their forms; state versions vary, so confirm your state's rule with your bar's ethics counsel or an ethics lawyer.

Do landing pages hurt my law firm's SEO?

Google's guidance on A/B testing says tests are fine for search if you do not cloak, use rel=canonical on variant URLs, redirect with 302s rather than 301s, and run the experiment only as long as necessary. Pages built for paid traffic and pages meant to rank are separate jobs, and keeping them apart is the simple answer.

How many fields should a law firm landing page form have?

Only what intake needs first. Nielsen Norman Group's form guidance is to remove fields that can be derived or collected later, use one column, and show specific error messages, and HubSpot's analysis found multiple large text areas depress conversions more than added text fields, though that data comes from ecommerce and B2B pages.
