Estate planning marketing puts a firm in front of people who know they need a will or a trust and haven't acted yet, then converts their attention into consultations and signed plans.
It is one practice area inside law firm marketing, and it buys differently from the urgent areas beside it.
Nobody wakes up at 2 a.m. needing a trust, and the people who do call are comparing firms rather than racing to one.
The demand is enormous, and it procrastinates
A 2025 Caring.com/YouGov survey of more than 2,500 U.S. adults found 24% of respondents had a will, down from 33% in 2022, and 13% a living trust.
Among respondents without a will, 43% said they just haven't gotten around to it, and nearly a quarter said nothing would motivate them to plan.
The demographics run the other way: the Census Bureau counted 61.2 million Americans aged 65 and older in 2024, 18% of the population, up from 12.4% in 2004.
Timing is event-driven: in the same survey, about 30% of respondents who had updated their wills did so after buying property (the publisher's hedged wording).
That points marketing at signals: a home purchase, a new child, a milestone birthday.
Marketing for estate planning attorneys comes down to four channels
Local search
The map pack and the pages behind it, for the wills and trusts searches in your county.
Professional referrals
Financial advisors, accountants and other lawyers, within the disclosure rules below.
Seminars and workshops
A dated event gives a procrastinating prospect a reason to act this month.
A site built to book consults
Click-to-call, scheduling and short forms, tested one variable at a time.
Probate is the exception: the work arrives after a death, and the client is often a grieving family member who has never hired a lawyer; it gets its own plan in probate attorney marketing.
Clients further into retirement, and the adult children helping them, sit closer to elder law marketing.
Estate planning law firm marketing starts with local search
Estate planning lawyer marketing lives or dies on local search: the map pack and the wills, trusts and probate pages behind it.
Google's documentation on helpful content (updated October 2026) says E-E-A-T is not itself a ranking factor, but that its systems give more weight to it on topics that could significantly affect people's financial stability or safety.
Estate planning is squarely that category, which is why thin practice pages lose to firms that publish real guidance.
Content has an ethics opinion behind it: ABA Formal Opinion 10-457 (August 2010) says lawyers may post accurate general legal information and recommends warning visitors that it is general and not a substitute for personal legal advice, while cautioning that answering fact-specific questions can look like giving advice.
Certification claims have their own rule: ABA Model Rule 7.2(c) bars stating or implying that a lawyer is certified as a specialist unless an approved or ABA-accredited organization did the certifying and is named in the communication.
The Model Rules bind no one until a state adopts them and state versions differ, so confirm how your state treats this with your state bar's ethics counsel or an ethics lawyer.
The keyword-by-keyword work is in SEO for estate planning lawyers.
Paid channels: Local Services Ads and Meta
Google's US Local Services Ads verification page listed 17 lawyer categories as of October 2026, and Estate is one of them, though availability varies by location.
More Booked Cases explains Google Ads and LSAs but manages neither; the managed paid channel here is Meta.
Pew Research Center's 2025 survey found 71% of U.S. adults use Facebook, while 37% use TikTok, which reaches 63% of adults 18 to 29 but 12% of those 65 and over.
Platform use is not ad reach, but Facebook is used by most U.S. adults, and it is where the managed Meta work runs: static image ads, 8 to 12 a month, landing pages built for one consultation action each, one landing-page A/B test a month.
Referrals, advisors and seminars
Referral relationships with financial advisors and CPAs are a mainstay of estate practices: ABA Model Rule 7.2(b)(4) allows a reciprocal referral agreement with another lawyer or a nonlawyer professional only if the agreement is not exclusive and the client is told about the exchange.
Thank-you gifts are narrower: Rule 7.2(b)(5), added in 2018, allows a nominal gift as thanks for a recommendation, nothing more than a token and nothing under a promise that gifts will follow referrals.
State versions differ, so clear any arrangement against your state's rule first.
Seminars are the classic estate channel for a survey-explained reason: when 43% of prospects have simply not gotten around to it, a dated event manufactures the deadline procrastination lacks.
The format, the invite list and the follow-up sequence are in estate planning seminars.
There is no measured national season for estate planning demand, so finish the foundation before whichever push you plan.
A planning calendar, not a season
Price the way estate planning clients buy
The flat-fee preference is documented: a 2Civility summary of Clio's 2024 report says 71% of clients said they prefer to pay a flat fee for their entire case, a stated preference rather than billing data.
For calibration, Clio's 2025 Legal Trends Report records average hourly rates of $370 for wills and estates, $394 for trusts and $293 for elder law, rates recorded by Clio users across matters billed in other ways too, not a price list.
ABA Model Rule 1.5(a) lists whether a fee is fixed or contingent among the factors for judging whether a fee is reasonable; your state's version controls.
The marketing point: price uncertainty is the biggest unknown in a shop-around decision, and a page that explains how you price removes it.
One of the longest follow-up windows MyCase measured
MyCase's 2024 Benchmark Report, covering its customers' 2023 data, counted consultations logged at 27% of leads in trusts and estates, the highest share of the practice areas it breaks out, against 14% overall.
Treat it as a software record, not a benchmark: consultations logged in one practice-management product, divided by everything firms entered as leads, not a booking rate, a show rate or a signed-case rate.
The same report averaged 15 days from lead intake to conversion in trusts and estates, against 3 in personal injury, 11 in family law and 16 in immigration and employment, among converted leads in one software base.
Say a month looks like this: 1,000 website visits produce 40 consultation requests, you hold 30 consultations and sign 15 plans.
Illustrative month: estate planning
Every gap in that funnel is measurable in your own numbers, and the consult-to-retainer math is in consultation to signed case rate.
Trust before they hand over the balance sheet
Nielsen Norman Group's research on service-business websites (2016) names four credibility factors: design quality, upfront disclosure, comprehensive and current content, and connection to the rest of the web.
Participants trusted external testimonials more than on-site ones, and sites missing basics like contact details were almost immediately ruled out.
That research is qualitative, from 2016 and not about law firms.
What a firm may say about testimonials and results on its own site is governed by its state's advertising rules.
What More Booked Cases does for estate planning firms
Estate planning attorney marketing is judged on consultations held and plans signed.
More Booked Cases is a one-person consultancy: CRO at $2,500 a month with one controlled test a month, local SEO at $2,500 a month, $5,000 a month for the two together (the main offer), and managed Meta ads at $3,000 a month flat plus a $2,500 one-time setup.
Minimums are 6 months for CRO and local SEO, 3 for Meta, then month to month, cancelled by email with 30 days' notice; ad spend goes to Meta directly, a $3,000 a month minimum never marked up and never a percentage of spend.
Conversion testing gets read access to your intake numbers so a test is judged by consultations booked and plans signed, not form fills; it never staffs intake, answers calls or runs the consultation.
The proof behind the conversion work is personal: Gabe Meierotto was Director of CRO at LaserAway from 2018 to 2023, where sitewide conversion rose from 3% to 11% across a testing program that returned 210x, with more than 2,600 variations tested and a 200% average lift on core service pages.
Before that, at the startup Sourcely, he ran click-to-call tests where conversion rate rose by up to 50% in some cases, website-initiated calls only.
More Booked Cases has no law firm clients yet, so this site publishes no client results, testimonials or case studies.
The honest edges: no Google Ads or LSA management, no website builds, no intake staffing or training, no selling leads, no per-lead or per-case pricing, no exclusive markets.
The free audit puts a prioritized plan in your hands within 3 business days, no call required.
Frequently asked questions
Is there demand for estate planning when only 24% of surveyed adults have a will?
A 2025 Caring.com/YouGov survey of more than 2,500 U.S. adults found 24% of respondents had a will, down from 33% in 2022, and 43% of those without one said they just haven't gotten around to it. The demand exists and it is stalled, which is exactly the problem marketing has to solve.
How much do estate planning lawyers charge per hour?
Clio's 2025 Legal Trends Report records average hourly rates of $370 for wills and estates and $394 for trusts, average rates recorded by Clio users rather than a price list. What a signed plan is worth to your firm is the number that drives your marketing math.

Estate is one of the 17 lawyer categories on Google's US Local Services Ads verification page as of October 2026, and availability varies by location. More Booked Cases explains LSAs but does not manage them.
How long does it take to convert an estate planning lead?
MyCase's 2024 Benchmark Report, covering its customers' 2023 data, averaged 15 days from lead intake to conversion in trusts and estates, counted among converted leads in one practice-management software base.
